Read and write for living
In order to spread literacy it has started a basic course with a first group of 40 teenagers aged 15 to 25 years. Although classes were already available in a nearby school, these classrooms were not used because they lacked essential courseware (desks, chairs, pencils, notebooks, etc.). Nuovo Fiore in Africa has decided to support the course by financing the purchase of material and providing salaries for teachers. During the morning, classes are used by the school, and in the afternoon there are reading and writing courses for girls and boys. The project also includes the creation of a dossier for each student to apply to the official exam of the primary school. Students pay a fee of 500 FCFa for the application to this exam.
Many young people in peripheral areas of the capital cannot read and write. Many of them come from the countryside seeking work and end up being exploited because of their shortcomings. Providing them with the ability to read and write means providing them with the basic tools to understand the world around them, being self-determinate as individuals and demand a better future.
The beneficiaries of the project are approximately 40 people aged between 15 and 25 years old.
