New Classrooms for the kids of the Bekele Blessing Center

The ONG Common River is an organization implementing community development programs in Aleta Wondo, a village located in the Sidama coffee-growing region. Common River strives to empower the community to become balanced, productive and self-sustaining for others to witness and replicate, while honoring cultural heritage and environmental biodiversity.

REASONS TO INTERVENE
Nowadays, there are the classrooms from Kindergarden to grade 4. New Flower in Africa, with the financial support of the swiss foundation Herrod, will partly support the expansion of the existing school from grade 5 up to grade 8 in order to allow the kins to continue their cycle of studies. Moreover, a literacy class for women will be sponsored.
DIRECT/INDIRECT BENEFICIARIES
Direct beneficiaries will be 120 students, 40 women of the literacy class and the school staff. Generally speaking, all the community of Aleta Wondo and of the surrounding villages will benefit from the project.
THE COUNTRY

Aleta Wondo is a village 480 km south of Addis Ababa with a population of around 50’000 inhabitants. Growing coffee is the main source of income, supplemented by smallholder farming.
