The project involves the construction of a new school building for the 7th and 8th grades at the Auxilium School in Bole Bulbula, Addis Ababa, managed by the Salesian Sisters. The intervention also includes the provision of new classroom furniture and the installation of adequate sanitary facilities for the students. This project meets the urgent need to create safe, comfortable, and compliant learning environments in line with Ethiopian education standards.
Currently, students in grades 7 and 8 are hosted in spaces that do not meet ministerial requirements, threatening the continuity of the educational programme. The construction of a dedicated building will ensure optimal learning conditions, with spacious classrooms, laboratories, teachers’ offices and separate sanitation facilities for boys and girls.
The project will directly benefit more than 300 students and 12 teachers, while the positive impact will extend to the entire school community — approximately 4,000 individuals including pupils, families and staff. Particular attention is given to the inclusion of girls, who represent the majority of students in the affected grades, contributing to the promotion of gender equity.
Upgraded classroom furniture will improve comfort and functionality, supporting concentration and overall well-being. In addition, the construction of new sanitation facilities for the primary school — necessary following the demolition of the previous ones — will ensure proper hygiene conditions for more than 1,000 children.
The project will be completed within one year, under the supervision of the Salesian Sisters and in cooperation with local educational authorities. Sustainability will be ensured through the congregation’s proven experience in school management and the active involvement of families and the local community.
School infrastructures are at the core of our educational initiatives in Africa: without safe classrooms, adequate spaces and modern tools, learning remains a privilege for the few. This is why we build and renovate schools, creating laboratories and learning environments where children and young people can grow with dignity.
Every new classroom is not just a building — it is a seed of hope and a promise of future for entire communities.

Bole Bulbula is a suburban district in the southern part of Addis Ababa, one of the fastest-growing urban areas of the capital. Over the past decade, thousands of families have migrated here from rural regions, seeking better opportunities but often ending up in precarious living conditions.
The community shows strong resilience and internal solidarity, yet youth unemployment exceeds 25% and educational services struggle to keep up with the growing population. Many children attend overcrowded schools — and too many are excluded from education altogether.
The district embodies the contrasts of the capital: a lively social and cultural environment, but also structural fragilities and a high risk of marginalisation for the youngest.
With the goal of supporting basic education and vocational training, the Foundation invests in infrastructure and initiatives addressing educational challenges such as the empowerment of girls and women.
Each project is developed in collaboration with local communities and aims to promote education, personal growth, and sustainable development.
