The Republic of Congo, located in Central Africa, holds vast natural resources — especially oil, gas, and timber — as well as tropical forests of significant ecological value. Despite this wealth, a large portion of the population lives in poverty, with limited access to healthcare, education, and basic infrastructure, particularly in rural areas.
Heavy dependence on the oil economy and deep social inequalities have hindered equitable and sustainable development. However, relative political stability, strong agricultural potential, and environmental protection initiatives offer the country the opportunity to build a more inclusive future — one driven by better resource distribution and a more diversified development model.
In 2014, 59% of students lacked basic literacy and numeracy skills. By 2019, this figure had decreased to 41%, showing progress — yet still far from the desired standards.
Many schools lacked essential learning materials, proper sanitation facilities, and safe environments for students. Classrooms were often overcrowded and poorly equipped.
A significant number of teachers were not formally qualified. The lack of ongoing professional development has negatively impacted overall teaching quality.
Only a small percentage of children were able to attend early childhood education, especially in rural areas.
