In 2014 we supported the start of the program “Read and Write to Live” in the suburban neighbourhoods of Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of Congo. The project offered an afternoon basic literacy course to 40 young people aged between 15 and 25, with the aim of combating illiteracy and promoting social and work inclusion paths in one of the most disadvantaged urban areas of the country.
The intervention ensured the provision of educational materials and the payment of two qualified teachers. Some participants were able to take the official literacy exam, opening the way to new educational and professional opportunities. In a context where about 28% of young Congolese people are illiterate, the initiative represented a concrete first step towards autonomy and personal redemption.
In addition to the direct benefits for the participants, the project had a positive impact on more than 250 people among families and local communities, demonstrating once again that education is the foundation of change even in difficult and marginalized environments.
Every word learned is a dream taking shape. Education ignites hopes and transforms desires into real possibilities.
Direct: 42 (between ages 15 and 25)
Indirect: 252
Brazzaville is the capital of the Republic of Congo, located along the banks of the great Congo River and known for its cultural and musical vitality. The city is a meeting point among different communities, with a young and dynamic population that represents a great resource for the country. At the same time, urban poverty, inequalities, and youth unemployment remain significant challenges affecting the daily lives of families. This combination of social energy and structural difficulties makes Brazzaville a complex context, where contrasts between potential and fragility are particularly evident.
With the goal of supporting basic education and vocational training, the Foundation invests in infrastructure and initiatives addressing educational challenges such as the empowerment of girls and women.
Each project is developed in collaboration with local communities and aims to promote education, personal growth, and sustainable development.
