Ghana is considered one of the most stable countries in West Africa, with a solid democracy and a growing economy supported by natural resources, cocoa production, and gold. Its vibrant culture, rich history, and young population represent a strong potential for development.
However, significant inequalities persist between urban and rural areas: in remote regions, access to healthcare, education, and basic infrastructure remains limited, and youth unemployment continues to be a major challenge.
Despite these obstacles, the resilience of the Ghanaian people and ongoing efforts to strengthen education and healthcare are fostering hope for a more equitable and prosperous future.
Between 2016 and 2023, around three out of four children in Ghana were considered multidimensionally poor. Education has been an essential tool in addressing this vulnerability and offering young people real opportunities for a better life.
During this period, approximately 80% of children living in Ghanaian orphanages were not orphans, but the sons and daughters of families struggling with severe economic hardship. Strengthening access to education has helped prevent abandonment and promote social inclusion.
In a context where many residential facilities for minors operated without authorization and with inadequate standards, education proved to be a key instrument for protecting children’s rights and supporting their path towards autonomy.
The lack of an accessible and high-quality education system has kept thousands of young people trapped in the cycle of poverty. Investing in schooling has been, between 2016 and 2023, one of the most effective strategies to promote human development and social cohesion.
