In 2022, we supported the purchase of a hematology analyzer for the clinic of the Catholic mission in Dilla, an area of southern Ethiopia characterized by high population density and economic fragility. The initiative was born as an extraordinary intervention in support of female school health, responding to the growing need for basic health services for female students.
The device now allows for rapid and reliable blood tests within the school clinic, improving access to health for 200 girls and concretely helping to combat school dropout. In Ethiopia, access to health services in rural areas is limited: in 2021, only 16% of girls aged 15 to 19 had received a regular medical check-up (DHS Ethiopia 2019).
In Dilla, a city with over 94,000 inhabitants (CSA Ethiopia, 2021), many families cannot afford private medical care, and economic hardship affects school attendance, especially for adolescent girls. The intervention had an indirect impact on over 1,200 people, including family members, staff, and community members.
The project also strengthened the work of local staff—1 doctor and 2 nuns—by providing a modern tool to support school public health.
Special support is created to respond to urgent and specific needs that emerge in the communities we work with. These are targeted interventions—such as medical supplies, means of transport, school equipment, or support in emergency situations—that allow concrete difficulties to be addressed immediately. These special projects complement our educational and social work, ensuring timely and high-impact responses. Every extraordinary help is a gesture that brings immediate relief and strengthens the hope of those living in vulnerable conditions.

Dilla is an important urban center in the Gedeo region, in southern Ethiopia, known for coffee production and trade. The city is lively and represents a meeting point for the surrounding rural communities. Despite this economic potential, many families remain in precarious conditions, with incomes too low to guarantee stable growth. Schools are often overcrowded and have limited resources, making effective learning difficult. The community, however, maintains a resilient spirit and a strong sense of cooperation, which form an important basis for the future.
With the goal of supporting basic education and vocational training, the Foundation invests in infrastructure and initiatives addressing educational challenges such as the empowerment of girls and women.
Each project is developed in collaboration with local communities and aims to promote education, personal growth, and sustainable development.
