In 2024, we supported the installation of a photovoltaic system at the school managed by the Salesian Sisters in Tonj, South Sudan. The intervention aims to guarantee a stable supply of electricity in an area completely disconnected from the national grid, where power outages are frequent and hinder the carrying out of educational activities.
The project, carried out in collaboration with technical partners such as EKI Foundation and BBM, is part of the path already started in 2022 with the activation of a computer laboratory, and contributes to further improving learning conditions. Solar energy now allows computers, lights, and educational tools to be powered, making classrooms more functional and environmentally sustainable.
The system was designed to meet local needs and ensure operational continuity, strengthening the school's resilience in a context affected by chronic poverty, conflict, and scarcity of infrastructure.
The Foundation also accepts proposals from partners that do not strictly fall within the field of education but still contribute to the support of previously funded projects.

Tonj is located in Warrap State, one of the most fragile areas of South Sudan. Daily life here is marked by widespread poverty, ethnic conflicts, food insecurity, and political instability. Most families live on subsistence farming and small businesses, but opportunities are few, and basic services, such as schools and health facilities, are almost non-existent. In this difficult context, access to education is extremely limited, especially for girls, who often do not attend school for cultural, economic, or security reasons. Schools are few, far away, and often unsafe. Added to all this are problems like early marriage, youth migration, and extreme climatic conditions, which make it even more difficult to ensure continuous education. And yet, despite everything, the Tonj community shows great resilience. Families are united, and there is a strong desire for peace and a future for their children. Bringing schools and educational projects here means offering young people a real chance to change their lives, break the cycle of poverty, and build a more cohesive and stable society.
With the goal of supporting basic education and vocational training, the Foundation invests in infrastructure and initiatives addressing educational challenges such as the empowerment of girls and women.
Each project is developed in collaboration with local communities and aims to promote education, personal growth, and sustainable development.
