Between 2019 and 2020, we supported the construction of two literacy classrooms in the mountain village of Gubrye, in the Gurage region, one of the most isolated and poor areas of Ethiopia. The new classrooms, built in traditional tukul style, accommodate around 80 children who otherwise would not have had access to school.
In 2020, we also started vocational workshops in the fashion and hairdressing sectors for 30 young people, offering them concrete skills applicable in the local job market. The project involved over 660 indirect beneficiaries, including families and the community.
With this intervention, we aimed to combat illiteracy and school dropout, while strengthening social inclusion and personal development. We believe that even in the most remote and forgotten areas, education must be a guaranteed right accessible to all.
School infrastructures are the heart of our interventions in Africa: without safe classrooms, adequate spaces, and modern tools, learning remains a privilege for a few. This is why we build and renovate schools, create laboratories and educational spaces that allow children and young people to grow up in dignified environments. Every new classroom is not just a building, but a seed of hope and future for entire communities.

Gubrye is located in the Gurage region, southwest of Addis Ababa, and is a center connected to a densely populated rural area. The population is known for its resourcefulness and commitment to small trade and agriculture. However, access to quality education remains very limited: many schools have precarious infrastructure and a small number of teachers. Poverty often forces children to divide their time between studying and family work, especially in the fields or local markets. Despite this, the Gurage people are known for their spirit of cooperation and solidarity, which forms an important basis for supporting educational and community initiatives.
With the goal of supporting basic education and vocational training, the Foundation invests in infrastructure and initiatives addressing educational challenges such as the empowerment of girls and women.
Each project is developed in collaboration with local communities and aims to promote education, personal growth, and sustainable development.
