Between 2021 and 2022, we supported the SOS Hermann Gmeiner School in Gode, in the Somali region of Ethiopia, which offers quality primary and secondary education with a strong focus on female empowerment. In 2021, the school involved 616 girls, while in 2022 there were 528 students, thanks to a qualified teaching staff and innovative teaching practices.
The Somali region is one of the most disadvantaged in the country: despite the primary enrollment rate being close to 100%, the transition to middle school is only 37.5%, and the clear disparity between boys and girls is evident, with a gender parity index between 0.75 and 0.76. Female literacy is among the lowest, below 10%. In this reality, the school represents a regional model for educational inclusion and the protection of girls' rights.
Through an integrated curriculum with English, computer science, and science, the school has helped to increase the female literacy rate, improve academic performance, and consolidate the institute as an educational reference point in the region. The project directly benefited hundreds of students, with an impact on over 3,100 people including families, communities, and teaching staff.
Partnerships with NGOs allow us to broaden the impact of our interventions and better respond to the needs of local communities. Through these collaborations, projects are born that combine different skills, resources, and visions to build a future and hope.

Gode is located in the Somali Region, in southeastern Ethiopia, a semi-arid area where the population lives mainly from pastoralism and local trade. The community has a strong cultural identity and traditions of hospitality, but the territory is marked by recurring droughts and a high level of food insecurity. Families face great difficulties in ensuring their children access to stable and well-equipped schools, which are often lacking or very distant from the villages. In a context where 40% of children in the region do not complete primary school, educational initiatives become crucial to breaking the cycle of poverty.
With the goal of supporting basic education and vocational training, the Foundation invests in infrastructure and initiatives addressing educational challenges such as the empowerment of girls and women.
Each project is developed in collaboration with local communities and aims to promote education, personal growth, and sustainable development.
