In 2018, we supported the construction of a vocational training center in Dédomé, a village located in the Amou prefecture, in southern Togo. The project was carried out in collaboration with the Amici di Don Frank Association to offer a concrete alternative to youth unemployment in a rural area marked by strong emigration, poverty, and lack of opportunities.
The new vocational school, dedicated to young people who have finished middle school, includes equipped workshops for various specializations: computer science, carpentry, electricity, construction, tailoring, mechanics, and agriculture. There is also a library, a canteen, and administrative spaces. The objective is to provide technical skills that are marketable in the local market, encouraging entrepreneurship and community development.
In a country where over 60% of the population is under 25 and youth unemployment exceeds 35% (UNDP Togo, 2022), technical training represents a key tool for reducing inequalities and promoting the autonomy of the new generations.
Partnerships with NGOs allow us to expand the impact of our interventions and better respond to the needs of local communities. Through these collaborations, projects are born that combine different skills, resources, and visions to build a future and hope. Dédomé is a small rural village in the Amou prefecture, in the canton of Imle, where daily life is linked to traditional agriculture and a pure subsistence economy. Families face serious economic difficulties, and children often have to contribute to farm work, thus giving up the opportunity to study. What characterizes the community is a strong sense of belonging and the will to support each other even in the most difficult moments. The most evident fragilities concern chronic poverty, the scarcity of essential services, and the absence of adequate educational facilities. The construction of a school here means giving young people a real opportunity to learn, breaking the cycle of exclusion, and giving hope to an entire village.
With the goal of supporting basic education and vocational training, the Foundation invests in infrastructure and initiatives addressing educational challenges such as the empowerment of girls and women.
Each project is developed in collaboration with local communities and aims to promote education, personal growth, and sustainable development.
